Whitewashing in a (nut)shell

GHOST IN THE SHELL was recently released to the world’s cinema screens and people are up in arms on the internet about “whitewashing”. The phenomenon Hollywood created way back in the early days of cinema by casting American actresses and actors as Asian, African or Hispanic roles. See Marlon Brando as Sakini in The Teahouse of the August Moon or John Wayne as Genghis Khan in The Conqueror. Whereas these two roles, from many, are examples of true whitewashing in all its glory, the recent controversy is slightly more complicated. Top Gear races head first to disappointment.

It has felt like an eternity since car lovers have been able to enjoy Top Gear since it was cancelled last year and that eternity continues. While there was a certain charm about the premier episode of the latest car show, there was missing chemistry between our two new main hosts. With little changed the show still managed to feel different in all the wrong ways.

Why we need more games like Need For Speed ProStreet!

Games simply are not what they used to be, especially car orientated games! The internationally connected car community continues to grow at a phenomenal rate and demand for more exposure doesn’t seem to be going any where, so how come game developers are forgetting about us ? Need For Speed was at the core of every car junkie’s down time. Continue reading

The thrill of speed at home.

We’ve all had the dream of owning a very fast, very expensive car and driving at ludicrous speeds on a winding or open road some where in the world. For most, it remains just a dream. But for the people of money, dreams become reality. Which is a bit sad to think isn’t it ? What if it wasn’t ? What if you could achieve this dream, from the comfort of your own home ? Through gaming equipment and some pretty nifty games to go with, you can do just this.

Assassin’s Creed : “Empire”

Assassin’s Creed has become one of my most loved gaming franchises and the news that has surfaced recently has strengthened that claim. For starters, Ubisoft will finally be skipping a year to aid development. Secondly, it will have similar open world mechanics to The Witcher 3 and I cannot praise that game enough then lastly it is apparently set in ancient Egypt, near 2000 years ago. I was a massive ancient Egypt nerd as a kid. We have already caught glimpses of the game and some details have been leaked, revealed and confirmed so I will gather them all up for you, the reader. Captain America : Civil War Breakdown

Today Marvel started the hype train on its merry way to screens and minds everywhere with the trailer for Captain America : Civil War, which hits theatres on May 6 2016. Not to be confused with the comic series of the same name, the movie adaptation of Civil War only shares two main similarities. The first being a contract of sorts that puts control over superheroes so they can’t run around with complete free will. The second is that the two sides are led by Cap on the “anti” side and by Tony Stark, a.k.a Iron Man, on the “pro” side. So I’m here to break some of said trailer down and make it easier to understand what is going on. Continue reading

Sennheiser – Reshaping Excellence

A little while ago, on Facebook, I shared a link to an interactive experience created by Sennheiser. That was several weeks ago and all I knew then was that the sound I created was part of a “sound monument”. I did not know what that monument represented in the real world, nor why the sounds people created were similar. I did not even know what Sennheiser was trying to advertise with this project. It was truly captivating. This week I found out what I had wanted to know. Just, “what is it”. Orpheus. That is what it became.  Continue reading

Game-To-Movie : Did It Work ? #01

Next year’s holiday season brings us the release of the Assassin’s Creed movie, December 21 to be exact. So in light of this, we’ll look back to past Game-to-Movie adaptations. The working, malfunctioning and not-so-sure-if-this-is-serious titles. We all have our favourites and some times we don’t want to admit them. Sometimes we’re glad to admit which ones we fell in love with, because they work. Other times we’re ashamed for the movie and gaming industries. Before we start, some movies rumoured and penned for release over the next couple of years include a Tomb Raider reboot, The Last of Us, Need For Speed 2, Uncharted and the finale in the Resident Evil franchise, The Final Chapter.
